When visiting Palma, the capital city of Mallorca, on a holiday or for business purposes, there are many hotels Palma de Mallorca offers its visitors. Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, can be found off the east coast of Spain in the Mediterranian Sea. The largest of the islands of Spain, its capital city Palma is also the capital city of the Balearic Islands autonomous community. The island's name in effect means larger one, in reference to its relative size when compared to the other islands in the chain, particularly Minorca.
Palma's climate is generally warm with the average daily temperature rarely going below 10 degrees C (50F). For sun seekers the best time to visit would be during the summer months of July and August when the temperature reaches its maximum of 28 degrees C (82F) and there is maximum amount of sunshine with suitably little chance of rain. The months of June and September would also be ideal to visit the city with temperatures averaging above 20 degrees C (68F) but there is a greater chance of rain in September. The majority of the rain falls between October and December but even then the peak is about two inches in October.
Palma's taxis and indeed all those found throughout Majorca, as with those in other top tourist cities such as New York and London are especially recognizable, in this case they are all eggshell or white in color and have a green light on their roofs. On arrival in the city it should be noted that the standard taxi is only licenced to carry four passengers plus luggage. Larger groups should look at booking a taxi before their arrival.
This service may be offered by many hotels, for departure or for trips round the city or island and as Palma de Mallorca is the capital so there should be no trouble in obtaining a taxi to a hotel in the area. There is a rail network covering much of the Island, all three lines of which originate in Palma, for those fancying venturing out by public transport when looking for more than the hotel's amusements.
When venturing further afield than the bars of the hotels Palma de Mallorca sits on the west coast of the Island. The rest of Majorca consists geographically of a pair of mountainous regions, each approximately 44 miles in length, one covering the north western third of the Island, the other the eastern third of the Island and a large plain. The highest peak on the Island Puig Major is 4740 ft high, but sadly for those looking for some climbing or mountaineering it is in a military area so the nearby Puig de Massanella at 4475 ft is the highest peak accessible to visitors.
The northeast coast of the Island is home to two bays, the larger, more eastern bay is called Badia d'Alcudia, the smaller is called the Badia de Pollenca. The Interior of the island, save the mountainous regions, is generally a flat plain known as Es Pla Palma sitting on the edge of it. For visitors venturing away from the capital city there are many caves and two of these caves that are above sea level are home to underground lakes and can be visited with a guided tour.
Palma's foundations were laid by the Romans who also lay the foundation for the town of Pollentia (Alcudia). Earlier than that there is some evidence of habitation dating back to 6000BC with the Romans arriving around 123BC. Modern tourism arrived on the island in about the early 60s probably helped by the advent of mass air travel, which most importantly was now relatively affordable.
Palma de Mallorca has a number of attractions of its own beyond nightlife and beaches. There is Bellver Castle a round castle and a separate tower. There is also La Seu a magnificent Roman Catholic cathedral, with impressive stained glass windows. The cathedral has had a number of additions by Gaudi including an unfinished crown of thorns. Wherever the hotels Palma de Mallorca has the potential to provide you with the distinct Spanish and Moorish mix that much of Southern Spain and the islands are famous for!
